Pat Summitt Retires, Will Receive the Medal of Freedom

The winningest coach in NCAA history has retired due to complications from dementia. Pat Summitt has won an amazing 1098 games as the head coach for the Tennessee Volunteers Woman's Team. Tennessee is the only school to appear in all 32 NCAA Woman's Tournaments and has been award the number 1 seed 21 times. Summitt has won the title 8 times.

Summitt had also been rumored to have considered coaching the men's team more than few times throughout the tumultuous existence of UT Men's Basketball. That historic moment however never happened and with Pat Summitt's retirement it never will.

Summitt is also being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. We congratulate Pat Summitt on her amazing career and her very honorable award that will presented to her by President Obama in the coming weeks. Even though this is a UK sports site first we have tremendous respect for Pat Summitt and her achievements. Actually, the UT Men's team might have benefited greatly if they would have hired her say... 10 years ago, who knows what would have happened.
