Kentucky Wins 8th National Championship, The Monkey is Off Calipari's Back, Finally

The 2011-12 Kentucky Wildcat Men's Basketball team may go down as one of the best teams of all time and certainly the best recruiting class of all time, that title is solidified, or until some other team wins 38 games and a National Championship while starting 3 freshmen. Not going to happen for a while.

Kentucky's awe-inspiring 1st half against Kansas put the entire nation on notice that this Kentucky team was special. I am a basketball junkie. Being related to the late great Cawood Ledford, while living in Harlan County, Kentucky, UK Basketball was sort of a pseudo religion, not just a game. One bold statement I will make is this; the top 5% of Kentucky Basketball fans could immediately be productive High School level coaches, that's how much we consume all things UK basketball. And I can certainly say that Kentucky's 1st half last night against Kansas was the most dominating 1st half of championship basketball since the 1989-90 UNLV shellacking of Duke in the championship game.

One very positive outcome of this championship is the fact that the beast (UK Basketball Fans) is fed, the beast can now quietly slumber with a big chichester cat grim for a season or two and allow Calipari to work, if he sticks around.

No matter how dismissive Calipari seemed to be last night with regard to the joy of finally winning it all, we know that Calipari, deep inside, is relieved and very happy. The rule book was rewritten last night. Now all the pundits and know-it-alls must finally admit that a so-called one-and-done team didn't just win it all but won it all in dominating fashion.
