The 2012-13 Kentucky Wildcat Basketball Team

In sports it is never too early to speculate and it is never too early to day dream. With this mindset let's examine what Kentucky's roster may look like for the 2012-13 season.

First we will be examining the most likely scenario. That being; the players we know we will have and the best guess on who goes pro and who returns for another season.

What We have Today
  • Jon Hood - 6-7 G
  • Twany Beckham - 6-5 PG
  • Jarrod Polson - 6-2 PG
  • Ryan Harrow - 6-2 G
  • Kyle Wiltjer - 6-9 F
  • Archie Goodwin - 6-5 SG
  • Alex Poythress - 6-7 SF
  • Will Cauley - 6-10 C

Best Guess For Those Who May Return
  • Marquis Teague - 6-2 PG (25% Chance he will return)
  • Terrence Jones - 6-9 F (40% Chance he will return)
  • Doron Lamb - 6-5 SG (60% Chance he will return)
  • Jon Hood - 6-7 G
  • Twany Beckham - 6-5 PG
  • Jarrod Polson - 6-2 PG
  • Ryan Harrow - 6-2 G
  • Kyle Wiltjer - 6-9 F
  • Archie Goodwin - 6-5 SG
  • Alex Poythress - 6-7 SF
  • Will Cauley - 6-10 C
I have not factored in the possible return of Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist as I see no reason and no chance for their return. I know Kidd-Gilchrist mouthed off and said he was staying and the ESPN scamps tried to create a distraction late in the tourney by cited "unnamed" sources that said he was leaving but at the end of the day there is no way Kidd-Gilchrist can pass up being a top 5, likely a top 3, draft pick. No way.

We should also land at least 1, maybe all, of the remaining uncommitted top recruits as well. If Kentucky manages to land just one of them, especially a Muhammad or Noel, then Kentucky is a top 5 team next year, a solid top 5 team. The remaining 5 star recruits left are:

  • Nerlens Noel - 6-10 C (Ranked #1) (60% Chance he commits to UK)
  • Shabazz Muhammad - 6-6 SF (Ranked #2) (70% Chance he commits to UK)
  • Anthony Bennett - 6-8 PF (Ranked #7) (40% Chance he commits to UK)
  • Amile Jefferson - 6-7 PF (Ranked #18) (30% Chance he commits to UK)
There is also 1 very good 4 star recruit uncommitted as well.
  • Tony Parker - 6-9 C (Ranked #21) (10% Chance he commits to UK)

Possible Transfers
  • Alex Oriakhi (From UConn) (50% Chance he commits to UK)
According to the media Oriakhi has recently spoken to Noel about the possibility of teaming up at Kentucky. If this occurs Kentucky will have the most fearsome paint presence in the nation next year, maybe more fearsome than this year's squad. Scary thought indeed...
